Kaja Draksler wins Paul Acket Award

Kaja Draksler wins prestigious Paul Acket Award 2018!
The Paul Acket Award, named after the founder of North Sea Jazz, was created in 2006 and meant to highlight artists still at the beginning of their careers. Kaja will be presented with a trophy as well as cash prize at this year’s North Sea Jazz Festival.
This award has been given to some of the most critically acclaimed musicians worldwide, including Craig Taborn, Ambrose Akinmusire and Donny McCaslin.
Congratulations Kaja, it couldn’t go to someone more deserving!…

doek crowdfunding campaign


Here at Doek we not only want to develop and present our music, we also want to pass on the considerable skills and knowledge of the Doek musicians to others. That is why we want to offer a 3-day workshop during our annual Doek Festival (14 – 17 June) where participants can work on differeent aspects of improvisation. To make a top quality workshop accessible for young talent and students we’ve started a crowdfunding campaign at Voordekunst. You can read all about it here.…

It’s a full-on Doek evening this Friday in De Ruimte. We start in the small space at 21:00 with two trios put together by Doek members Eric Boeren and Michael Moore, featuring some of the most interesting young players around:
Trio 1: Eric Boeren cornet, Joachim Badenhorst clarinets, tenor sax; Daijo Riuchi guitar
Trio 2: Michael Moore alt sax, clarinet; Uldis Vitols double bass; Tristan Renfrow drums

At 23:00 it’s 2nd Stop is Jupiter where AY 69 serves up Turkish psychedelic folk and All Ellington sweeps you up into the snappy, dreamy, swinging world of Duke Ellington.…

This is our music – Doek Festival 2018

June 14-17
The last few editions of the Doek Festival have been some of the most ambitious events Doek has ever undertaken. A collaboration with Present Sounds Amsterdam brought you The Present Is Present, showcasing the incredible wealth of improvised music happening in Amsterdam today. Prior to that we had the ABC Festival, connecting scenes from Amsterdam, Berlin and Chicago, and Doek Meets Tri-centric, which brought over an entire collective from the United States to work with and perform the music of Anthony Braxton among others.…
