This months E*Cinema will feature New York underground films from the sixties, with films by and about Andy Warhol and live music by The Job.
Pop culture and mass media were important for the esthetics of New York underground in the sixties. For them filming was life and life was a film. Andy Warhol (‘In the future everyone will be world-famous for fifteen minutes’) was also often the subject of films by other artists of his generation. The underground couple Marie Menken (1909-1970) and Willard Maas (1906-1971) played in Warhol’s films and made films about him.
