Wolter plays with such passion and intuition that one can sometimes forget how mind blowing his abilities on the instrument really are. As fellow trombonist Jeb Bishop said: “there are things on the trombone Wolter can do that no one else can do”. However, it’s still his strengths as an improviser that shine the brightest.…

This month’s SITP ft Doek features two special duos. Wilbert de Joode double bass and guest Julyen Hamilton present a magical and spirited blend of improvised double bass and poetry/spoken word. John Dikeman tenor sax and Wolter Wierbos trombone play duo for the first time – we’re anticipating fireworks, warmth and virtuosity.

Then over to the big room for the Second Stop is Jupiter at 23:00, with danceable jazz, Turkish and cumbia music.…

This year at the Zomer Jazz Fiets Tour (Summer Jazz Bike Tour) in Groningen, Doek has 4 ensembles performing. The Fiets tour is one of our favorites in the Netherlands as it not only has excellent programming, it also happens to be one of the funnest festivals anywhere. (We even borrowed the idea for our own festival – Doek has included a bike tour in our last 4 festivals with great success.…

Available Jelly 40 years!

Believe it or not, Available Jelly is turning 40 this year! Hard to imagine this ensemble has been going so long, and sounds as fresh and inspired as ever. Originally a part of the Great Salt Lake Mime Troupe, a group of musicians, dancers and clowns, they first came to Europe to perform in the “Festival of Fools” in the 70s. Many of the musicians stayed on, including Michael Moore, Michael Vatcher and Gregg Moore. Gregg returned to the USA some time ago but we’re happy to say he will rejoin the band for this tour of the Netherlands.…
