Next to music, food is a subject dear to our hearts. No wonder that I Hear a Smell is opening the festival! During the Doek Festival there are diverse opportunities to eat before the concert. On Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 april you can enjoy a three course organic vegetarian meal in Zaal 100 courtesy of Vekologish. It goes without saying that the musicians of Doek view improvisation as paramount to their creative process. Many of the Doek groups have an international reputation for their strong combination of improvisation and composition.
How does this relationship work? Can we lift a corner of the veil and give insight into that creative process?

For Sunday, March 30, 2014, we’ve invited two young musicians to form a group with a few members of Doek. In the space of an hour they will work on a composition featuring improvisation and then perform it for the first time.…
