See you at the market: Eric Boeren

Fourth up in See you at The Market: Eric Boeren
Founding Doek member Eric Boeren is the artist who first suggested creating a large scale work featuring the core Doek members plus guests to create a two day piece involving theater and music. This concept was then honed down into The Market and will include dancers as well as guest singers, musicians and actors. Eric himself is composing two large scale pieces, one involving the Jones family purchasing a rug at the bazaar, and another showing a rural family’s attempts to sell their goods in an urban market environment.…

see you at the market: Harald Austbø

Third up in See you at The Market: Harald Austbø.
Harald Austbø is known for his creative and original contributions to the theater and music worlds as actor, singer and cellist. He is freakishly talented, equally at home serving the bass role in a jazz group as playing thoroughly notated melodic lines. Quite often, he’ll do both at the same time whilst beatboxing or improvising nonsense rap over top. Something of a highly dependable wild-card, he manages to provide rock solid support to any ensemble he performs with yet remain spontaneous, drawing on a wealth of influences from jazz, classical, rock, pop, samba, hip hop, spoken word, poetry, theater, performance art and improvisation of all sorts.…

Featured Ensemble for Doek Festival 2018
Amagi
Friday June 15 – Bimhuis

Wolter plays with such passion and intuition that one can sometimes forget how mind blowing his abilities on the instrument really are. As fellow trombonist Jeb Bishop said: “there are things on the trombone Wolter can do that no one else can do”. However, it’s still his strengths as an improviser that shine the brightest.…

This is Our Music – Artist portrait Jasper Stadhouders

Jasper Stadhouders
Featured Ensemble for Doek Festival 2018
Stadhouders, Oliver, Vitols, ‘t Hart, Rosaly
Friday June 15 – Bimhuis

Jasper Stadhouders is one of the newest members of Doek and belongs to the youngest generation of Dutch improvisers. Since arriving in Amsterdam, Jasper has exploded onto the international improvised music scene. His playing showcases a completely natural musicality. One has the sense that he is so connected with his instrument he can play whatever he imagines. His ability to perform difficult compositions, with an assured sense of rhythm and harmony, combined with his extremely physical and dynamic approach to improvising, has led to him being one of the most sought after guitarists and electric bassists around.…
