BRAND! provides a platform for a new generation of musicians in collaboration with illustrious veterans of the music. This year, the focus of the festival is on Belgian/Dutch combinations. Wolter Wierbos hosts trombone night

Doek @ Zaal 100 is a monthly meeting place for music, discussion, art and drinks. For this edition Wolter Wierbos has brought together an exceptional crew of trombonists from around the world coming from both classical and jazz backgrounds. Some of them are based in the Netherlands, and a couple are just travelling though. Either way, this will be an unbelievable evening of trombone madness including improvisation, discussion over the music and the instrument, and since there are some doublers in the group, a few guitars might pop up as well.…

Wolter Wierbos trombone

Wolter Wierbos is considered one of the world’s leading trombone players. He has played throughout Europe, Canada, USA and Asia. Wierbos has many awards to his name, including the Podiumprijs for Jazz and Improvised music and the most important Dutch jazz award, the VPRO Boy Edgar Prize.
Like many Dutch brass players Wierbos started out in a ‘fanfare’ (brass band), switching from trumpet to trombone when he was 17. “It looked good, and the trombones walk in front….”…

Wolter Wierbos to teach at ArtEZ

slide-wolter-wierbos1Wolter Wierbos will join the music faculty at the renowned ArtEZ Hogeschool in Arnhem this September. Headed by pianist, composer Michael Braam, ArtEZ has one of the most forward thinking curricula of the Netherlands. They also host a faculty of some of the greatest musicians and improvisers of the region, including Doek’s own Wilbert de Joode. Now trombonists will have a chance to study with one of the greatest living trombonists in improvised music.
