Carl Testa: I am a composer and instrumentalist based in New Haven, CT and New York City. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, I studied music with Donn DeSanto, at the U of C Lab School, as well as at the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) School of Music. Vincent Chancey was born in 1950 in Chicago, Illinois. In junior high school, Chancey played the cornet, trumpet and flugelhorn. However, after hearing the French horn during rehearsals, he switched to the French horn. He was born in 1974 in Clatskanie, Oregon. He began playing trumpet professionally with his father, a big band saxophonist, at the age of 13. His time in Oregon instilled in Nate a musical aesthetic that has informed all of his music making for the past 20 years.
Nate moved to New York in 2001, and has since become one of the most in-demand trumpet players in the burgeoning Brooklyn jazz, improv, noise, and new music scenes.…
