Amsterdam is bustling with improvised music from all generations and nationalities. However, Amsterdam isn’t the only place in the Netherlands to see world class music. In Zaandam we have the Jazz Inverdan series, formerly known as Jazz in Serah. Back then, Eric Boeren was the curator. Eric is no longer curating, but instead has been asked to open the 2019/2020 season with the incomparable Eric Boeren 4tet.…

Fourth up in See you at The Market: Eric Boeren
Founding Doek member Eric Boeren is the artist who first suggested creating a large scale work featuring the core Doek members plus guests to create a two day piece involving theater and music. This concept was then honed down into The Market and will include dancers as well as guest singers, musicians and actors. Eric himself is composing two large scale pieces, one involving the Jones family purchasing a rug at the bazaar, and another showing a rural family’s attempts to sell their goods in an urban market environment.…

All Ellington is about to release their first CD on de Platenbakkerij label and will be celebrating later this month at the Bimhuis. It’s becoming something of a year-end tradition for All Ellington to present their reinterpretations of Ellington’s elegant compositions at the Bim. If you don’t want to wait, they are also performing at De Brakke Grond as part of a program by Belgian theater group De Nwe Tijd.…

The Zomer Jazz Fiets Tour is one of our favorite events in the Netherlands. Incredible music presented all over the countryside in the province of Groningen- you can hear bands in barns, churches, quaint houses and theaters. (In fact, we liked the ZJFT so much we stole the idea for our own festival and the Amsterdam Real Book Bike Tour has become a regular part of the Doek Festival.)…
