A Doek December – real live music


We have a number of shows happening in December. Things have changed recently, again, in the Netherlands, but it is still possible to perform live music in a safe and responsible way. Bear in mind, all these shows have audience limits so if you want to make it out, be sure to reserve in advance.

The new season begins

After a refreshing summer filled with festivals and fun, the new season for improvised music has now begun. Amsterdam is chock-full of great venues and improvised series – be sure to check out Present Sounds Amsterdam to get an overview of everything going on. Here are some highlights featuring Doek ensembles.

Zaal 100 is back with regular shows every Tuesday night including the monthly showcase for All Ellington every third Tuesday of the Month.

Space is the Place at De Ruimte has already hosted a number of great shows and will begin their collaboration with Doek November 9 featuring Cactus Truck with special guest James Brandon Lewis as well as an incredibly rare, heavily amplified bass solo by Wilbert de Joode.…

Cactus (Truck/Duo) + Ava Mendoza Tour

Cactus Truck is teaming up once again with guitar wizard Ava Mendoza to tour Europe this March. Ava brings a unique dirty virtuosity to the band that helps flesh out different aspects of the Cactus canon. As Vice said: “It’s… Ava Mendoza’s deconstructing of blues and punk into brutal shredfests that’s causing a ruckus in NYC’s DIY hubs”.
Unfortunately, Jasper Stadhouders had some previous engagements that will not allow him to join the last few dates of the tour. However, the bass chair will be more than covered for their performance at Freejazzfestival Saarbrücken by one Barry Guy.…

The Second Stop is Jupiter starts again on October 13. The series has been a great success, combining late night dance party aesthetics with an improvisational flare. De Ruimte has become the place to be every second Friday after your main activity of the evening but before heading off into the Amsterdam night for some seriously late mischief.…

BRAND! NL

09.jazzfestival_web_hoofd_outlinesNONA and Cultural Mechelen organize the 2nd edition of the jazz festival BRAND! to take place February 12-13 in Mechelen, Belgium. As well as the official festival there is a second program RAND! which will take place throughout the month.

BRAND! provides a platform for a new generation of musicians in collaboration with illustrious veterans of the music. This year, the focus of the festival is on Belgian/Dutch combinations. A number of groupings featuring Doek musicians will be performing including Ambush Party, Cactus Truck, Eric Boeren, Wilbert de Joode, Teun Verbruggen, ICP and The Ex.…

Cactus Truck @ USA

cactus truckCactus Truck and guests including Ava Mendoza, Chris Corsano, Joe McPhee and William Parker, are almost half way through their USA tour. Tonight they will play at the Conundrum Music Hall in West Columbia and in a few days they will be heading for NYC.
They’ve got their brand new cd ‘Seizures Palace’ on the Not Two label with them. They hope to also have a re-release of their already out of print ‘Live in USA’ cd as a limited edition tape on the Astral Spirits label.…
