Misha Mengelberg: a celebration
Tonight we turn our attention to another key figure in the world of creative music: Misha Mengelberg, who turned 80 on June 5. We’re curious to hear what musicians from different backgrounds and generations will do with Mengelberg’s whimsical, swinging and melodic compositions.
-A new piece by Michael Moore will be performed by John Dikeman, Oscar Jan Hoogland, James Fei, Ingrid Laubrock, Onno Govaert, Brandon Seabrook and Michael Moore.
-All 19 musicians will play a piece by Ingrid Laubrock.
-James Fei’s new piece will be performed by Nate Wooley, Vincent Chancey, Eric Boeren, Taylor Ho Bynum, Wolter Wierbos, Mary Halvorson, Brandon Seabrook, Michael Moore, John Dikema, Onno Govaert and James Fei.
-Misha set: various size ensembles playing improvisations, interpretations of Misha Mengelberg pieces.
