Doek is organizing a series of workshops in Splendor in Amsterdam. Doek musicians are renowned for their skills and experience in the field of improvised music. They are keen to share their knowledge with you!

Michael: ‘For my contribution to the Doek improvisation workshop series I will concentrate on non-idiomatic improvisation. In order to play this music well, and to be aware of all the possibilities, the player needs a specific set of listening skills. We will do exercises designed to heighten awareness of: the relationship between players, when the music is ready for change, when to start or stop playing. We will also play some pieces (vehicles for improvisation), and examine the relationship between composition and improvisation.’

The daylong workshop will comprise two sessions (12 – 14.30 and 15.30 – 18.00) followed by a presentation concert in the evening. Cost of the workshop is €20 and €15 for students. There is a maximum of 10 students per workshop. We will follow all COVID-19 regulations and precautions that apply at the time of the workshop.
