Keyboard player, composer and bandleader Sun Ra named himself after the Egyptian sun god. Rumor has it that when he died Ra went back to Saturn, but his cosmic afro-futurist philosophy lives on here on earth, embodied in the persons of trombonist Joost Buis and saxophonist André Goudbeek, however unlikely that may seem.…

Eric Boeren Meets Joost Buis and Natalio Sued, and Michael Moore teams up with Peter Evans for interviews and duos. Tonight, Wednesday 30 april in Zaal 100. Starts at 20:30, tickets at the door €8.
Musicians spend remarkably little time talking together about their music. When they do, the subjects broached are rarely what you find in interviews: “What is tone?” ” How do you start a note?” “And how does one note lead to another?” “Playing in layers…” “Presence…”
Not trying to sit in the chair of the music journalist we want to delve into the inner lives of the invited musicians and partake in a frank discussion with the public.…

Festival food

Next to music, food is a subject dear to our hearts. No wonder that I Hear a Smell is opening the festival! During the Doek Festival there are diverse opportunities to eat before the concert. On Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 april you can enjoy a three course organic vegetarian meal in Zaal 100 courtesy of Vekologish. On Satuday 3 May there’s a la carte in the Bimhuis and on Sunday 4 May Yvonne and Els will cook 3 course vegetarian Indonesian in Zaal 100.…
