Doek receives funding for 2017 – Celebration at Zaal 100

slide-eric_boeren3Thanks to the lobbying by Doek and other cultural organisations, the efforts of various political parties (notably SP, D66 and PvdA) and a petition signed by thousands of concerned citizens, the Dutch parliament passed an amendment awarding 10 million euros to arts funding for 2017. This means that Doek will have funding from the FPK for next year! We are very pleased to be able to continue supporting all of the various programs and events that Doek is involved in throughout the year, as well as the Doek Festival which seems to be growing stronger with each new edition.…

Boy Edgar Prize award night

wilbertsaraankeOn Wednesday December 7, the Buma Boy Edgar Prize 2016 will be awarded to Doek founding member Wilbert de Joode during a festive concert evening in the Bimhuis. Wilbert has curated a very special programme especially for this occasion. There’ll be performances from the long-standing Kaufmann/Gratkowski/De Joode trio and the Ab Baars trio, who will be joined by the young pianist Marta Warelis. Wilbert has invited a number of kindred spirits – Peter van Bergen and Tobias Delius, saxophone and clarinets; Ada Rave, saxophone; and Michael Vatcher and Onno Govaert, drums – who, together with the trio musicians, will perform in all sorts of intriguing line-ups.…

Wilbert de Joode wins Buma Boy Edgar Prize

Wilbert-de-Joode-foto-Sara-Anke-Morris-1-1Wilbert de Joode, a founding member of the Doek collective, has been awarded the 2016 Buma Boy Edgar Prize. Wilbert is the fourth member of the collective to win this prize, other winners being Michael Moore (1986), Wolter Wierbos (1995) and Tobias Delius (2003).

From the jury’s report…
De Joode’s playing is infused with a spirit of uncompromising urgency, yet it is also characterised by rigour and fragility.…

Harald Austbo Fietstour 2015A month ago we posted the letter (in Dutch) that the Doek board sent to the members of the committee who will be considering the proposed cultural budget in November. Here’s the translated text of that letter.

Amsterdam, 26 September 2016

Dear Sir/Madam,
In September Minister Bussemaker announced that she had made an extra 10 million euros available to spend on culture in the coming 4 years. As Doek board members we heartily applaud this measure. At the same time we are shocked and bewildered by how this money will be allocated.…
