The second publication in this series on Doek RAW is composed by pianist Kaja Draksler. She wrote a piece called Passage. When we asked her to write a short text to accompany her composition, she created a poem by combining definitions from the Cambridge dictionary.

Doek Composes for solo improvisers, a new and ongoing series on Doek RAW featuring original artwork by Lena Czerniawska

The first publication in this series on our Bandcamp label Doek RAW is composed by cornettist Eric Boeren. He wrote a piece called Enkhuizen, which is a small town on the coast of the Ijsselmeer in the province of Noord-Holland in The Netherlands. Eric is, amongst many other things, an avid cyclist, and this is Eric’s explanation of how this composition came about:

Feecho – Live at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival

Feecho, the duo of Kaja Draksler and Onno Govaert, has just released a new live album on Doek RAW, Live at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Last summer, a couple of Doek groups toured in Canada and performed at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. This recording comes from that tour. This concert was recorded live at the Ironworks in Vancouver by Ron Ruiten and mixed and mastered by Daniele Martini. Artwork, once again, by Sara Anke.

Boerenbond Release – For Cor

We’ve just released a recording of the Boerenbond from Doek Festival 2003 in remembrance of Cor Fuhler.

“For Doek Festival 2003 I wrote music for a group with Cor Fuhler (organ and keyolin), Guus Janssen (piano and celesta), Oren Marshall (tuba), Michael Vatcher (trap drums, huge bass drum, gongs) and myself (cornet). We had the chance to practice 3 days extensively. We got ourselves to the point that we could play the music (the ideas) well and fresh.…
