After two evenings in the Bimhuis, hop on your bike and visit unusual locations in Amsterdam Noord for the now famous Amsterdam Real Book Bicycle Tour, this time interpeting the music of such great Amsterdam and Chicagoan improvisers as Guus Jansen, Sean Bergin, Sun Ra, Josh Berman and more.

During Doek Festival 2016’s ABC Real Book Bicycle Tour, festival artists from Amsterdam, Berlin and Chicago will give exciting performances in five special venues in Amsterdam Noord.…

On the third day of DOEK Festival 2016, things are getting to move!

As the day before, there will be a Dance Workshop at Plantage Dok, starting at 11am.

Afterwards, the whole festival gets mobile – with the ABC Real Book Bicycle Tour! The musical bike ride through Amsterdam will start at 2pm and will come to an end around 6.30pm with a cozy dinner at De Ruimte. …

Day 2 of the Festival: April 30 – Jason Roebke Octet – Chicago

Composer and musician Jason Roebke exemplifies all that is fascinating and unique about Chicago jazz. He will bring six of Chicago’s finest improvisers to this year’s Doek Festival. Their sound is deeply rooted in rich Ellingtonian harmony while re-imagining the approach with exciting individual interplay between the soloists and ensemble.

The trio Warelis / de Joode / Govaert emerged from Amsterdam’s flourishing improvised music circuit and unites two generations of improvisers: the young, up-and-coming Onno Govaert and Marta Warelis with ‘old dog’ and Doek member Wilbert de Joode.

Day 2 of the Festival: April 30 – Annette Krebs – Berlin

In her sound sculptures, German artist Annette Krebs tries to approach a musical vision with the help of several techniques and working methods. At this years Doek Festival, Annette Krebs will be presenting her Konstruktion #2, a work consisting of specially designed set-ups of sound objects (metals, strings, wood, various objects), electronics (Max/MSP), and microphones.

Day 1 of the Festival: April 29 – Michael Moore Bigtet – Amsterdam

The California-born musician and Doek member Michael Moore combines the best of different worlds: the finesse of the American jazz tradition, the anarchy of New Dutch Swing and the interesting sounds of folk music from all over the globe.
