Ada Rave plays Angels’ Share

Ada RaveAda Rave is next up to perform solo as part of Herbert Nouwens’ exhibition, Angels’ Share, in Westerpark on August 9. Ada will begin at 17:00 in front of the twin sculpture Angels’ Share which stands just west of Pacific Parc.

Ada Rave, originally from Argentina, moved to Amsterdam just over a year ago and immediately integrated into the improvised music community. Performing regularly throughout town, her saxophone playing shows a wealth of knowledge and technique ranging from a deep understanding of traditional jazz harmony as well as a variety of extended techniques all showcasing a beautiful, warm tone that can easily shift from the delicate to the robust.…

Angels’ Share and Doek at Westergasfabriek

Doek will be interacting with Angels’ Share, a large sculpture exhibition by Herbert Nouwens, with 25 pieces spread around Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek and Sint Barbara cemetery. First up is ‘Little big band’ Available Jelly who will kick off at 4 pm during the exhibition opening on Saturday 21 June. Every Saturday afternoon at 5 pm, from 28 June until 23 August, a different improviser will give a solo performance at one of the sculptures.…

On the 10th of June E*Cinema Academy will be dedicated to the darling of film makers, the Super8 film, bringing together a special selection of films from different artists all shot on this format, some of which were recently preserved by EYE but have rarely been seen before.

The evening focuses on Dutch artist Jaap Pieters, probably the best known Super8 practitioner in Holland, also known as the EYE of Amsterdam.…

On Sunday May 25 Doek returns to Zaal 100 for Doek @ Zaal 100, a monthly meeting place for music, discussion, art, drinks and friendship. It’s free and starts at 8 pm. This Sunday Michael Moore (alto sax, clarinet) meets, talks and plays with two Canadian guitarists who are passing through town – Ken Aldcroft, from Toronto, and Vancouver-based Jeff Younger (photo left). One point of discussion will be regional variations in improvised music and the importance thereof.…

Voorlopig staat er nog altijd geen maat op het mooiste improvisatiefestival van de Lage Landen. Na de vijf dagen van 2013, wordt in 2014 uitgepakt met een zesdaags festival, waarbij opnieuw een resem internationale gasten grote sier komt maken aan de zijde van Doek-leden en andere improviserende Nederlanders. Net als vorig jaar kunnen we er enkel bij zijn op hoogdag 3 mei, en net als toen zagen we een paar indrukwekkende concerten.…
