The Market

This year we’re turning the Bimhuis upside down for our own production: The Market. For two glorious days the Bimhuis will be transformed into a meeting place where all sorts of exchanges take place, from goods and services to smells, flavours, cultures, sounds, glances, blushes, curses and currency. On Sunday 16 June we’ll finish with a Saturnalia party featuring a slew of pre-existing bands as well as some new combinations. The evening culminates in the big band – Bacchanalia: La Orquesta.

Doek explores the concept of the marketplace within an urban environment. The main Doek artistic core will be joined by actors, guest musicians and set designer Nelli Bodt. Improvisation will lead to numerous surprise happenings, and newly composed material will also unite all the artists from time to time.

Saturnalia: Doek Festival Closing Party

We end The Market with a collaboration with Saturnalia, a series that’s been happening at De Ruimte centered around the impro-cumbia project Bacchanalia. For this event we have a whole different group of guests that will come together in various formations and then join forces for the Bacchanalia – La Orquesta. DJ Phonautograph will be laying down the grooves throughout the evening and into the night.
