Doek bands highlights of Zomer Jazz Fiets Tour

The Zomer Jazz Fiets Tour, this year in its 31st year, proved once again to be one of the most inspirational and down-right fun festivals in the Netherlands, attracting an audience of roughly 1,500 that biked from barn to church to museum in surprisingly good weather. Doek was well represented with Dikeman, Parker, Drake; Duo Wolter Wierbos/Kris Defoort; the Dutch Impro Academy; the PolyBand and Wilbert de Joode Core Trio. Doek groups were listed as being highlights of the festival, both by word of mouth as well as reported in a number of reviews.

[Dikeman, Parker, Drake] create a cosmos that strikes spectators stupid – a type of jazz that gives both its sophisticated, fascinating character and connects the past and future in a biological manner. This makes it an indisputable highlight of the Summer Jazz Tour 2017. …
Earlier this day, there was some doubt about how to proceed with a completely free music form that emerged in the sixties and seventies of the last century… the Dikeman, Parker, Drake concert gave an answer and even more hope came from the Polyband of Jasper Stadhouders. … The Polyband radiates the power of a nuclear explosion. …
through endless repetitions the music creates something transcendental.

In the churches we had already seen tombstones where the deceased were waiting for their resurrection, but for Alber Ayler this has really happened, though he looks different now and calls himself John Dikeman. … as the new Ayler it is time for us to hold him in our arms. And let us also hold on to Parker and Drake because their energy and creativity played a crucial role in this grand end to the summer jazz tour 2017.
