Biography
Native Aliens Ensemble is a group of 8 musicians playing compositions which combine elements of Brazilian popular music with free improvisation. The group was created by Brazilian composer/multi-instrumentalist Renato Ferreira. Renato studied contemporary composition at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague. For this project he draws on a mix of Brazilian, European and Dutch influences: from Louis Andriessen to Alban Berg, passing through Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti. You can expect Brazilian rhythms, including maracatu, frevo, baiao and catira, transformed through the expansive orchestration afforded by the unusual instrumentation of this group. Add to that the powerful improvisations of these musicians, who are all active in the Amsterdam scene, and you are set for a truly memorable performance.
