Doek Festival #12 takes place from Tuesday 29 April till Sunday 4 May. More than 50 top improvisers and ensembles are playing in the various venues where improvised music flourishes in Amsterdam. We’ve lined up 6 days of art all over the city, even moving to Amsterdam Noord for this year’s Fiets(bicycle) Tour. Listen to the Frank Gratkowski Quartet in Splendor, the exceptional new artist-run venue for contemporary music; head to the Bimhuis for the noise and poetry of Thurston Moore/Andy Moor/Anne-James Chaton and a new trio with free jazz legends William Parker and Hamid Drake and Doek’s own John Dikeman. Settle back in Zaal 100 to hear musicians talk about their music in Eric Boeren Meets…….. That’s just to name a few – there’s also on-stage cooking, an ode to Sun Ra with Eddie & the Eagles, the famous Amsterdam Bicycle tour, a children’s workshop, interviews, dinners. But most of all, there’s fantastic music, improvised, live and now.
Concerts will take place at Zaal 100, OT301, Splendor, Bimhuis, Poortgebouw….
