Two months ago a packed audience in Zaandam’s Serah Artisan were treated to a very special concert with Wolter Wierbos (trombone), Michael Moore (alto sax and clarinet) and Franky Douglas (guitar). If you missed that concert or are eager to hear these three top improvisers again, then you have your chance this Sunday 6 April during the Come Along series in Serah Artisan.

Workshopping compositions

It goes without saying that the musicians of Doek view improvisation as paramount to their creative process. Many of the Doek groups have an international reputation for their strong combination of improvisation and composition.
How does this relationship work? Can we lift a corner of the veil and give insight into that creative process?

For Sunday, March 30, 2014, we’ve invited two young musicians to form a group with a few members of Doek. In the space of an hour they will work on a composition featuring improvisation and then perform it for the first time.…
