Tonight Doek musician Oscar Jan Hoogland will play with Thijs Elzinga at EYE. They will provide a live accompaniment to a selection of films by Jean Desmet.

Jelle Brandt Corstius made a selection from the work of Jean Desmet. Jean Desmet was a pioneer of Dutch cinema during the years 1907–1916. He progressed from fairground operator to become one of the most important cinema operators and film distributors in the Netherlands.
Jean Desmet’s Dream Factory. The Adventurous Years of Film (1907-1916) is an exhibition about his work, currently to see at Eye.…

cactus truckCactus Truck and guests including Ava Mendoza, Chris Corsano, Joe McPhee and William Parker, are almost half way through their USA tour. Tonight they will play at the Conundrum Music Hall in West Columbia and in a few days they will be heading for NYC.
They’ve got their brand new cd ‘Seizures Palace’ on the Not Two label with them. They hope to also have a re-release of their already out of print ‘Live in USA’ cd as a limited edition tape on the Astral Spirits label.…

The Doek festival has developed over the years into a significant event for improvised music. For the next edition, we’re collaborating with the Tri-Centric Foundation to present the music of one of the greatest living composers and improvisers, Anthony Braxton.

Musicians from Tri-Centric who will be joining include Taylor Ho Bynum, Vincent Chancey, Nate Wooley, Ingrid Laubrock, Mary Halverson, James Fey, Brendon Seabrook, Tomeka Reid, and Anthony Braxton himself.…
